Dr. Graham Brown
Dr. Graham Brown is a General Practitioner and co-founded Animalcare Veterinary Hospital with his wife Dr. Katalin Brown in 1991.
When asked what inspired him to become a veterinarian, Dr. Brown says, “Animals bring peace to my life. From my pre-teen years I have treasured my relationships with them and they have been at my side when there was no one else. Animals are truly God’s gift to us all and I am honored to take care of them.”
Originally from Kingston, Mandeville and Runaway Bay, Jamaica, Dr. Brown entered Szent István University, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences in Budapest, Hunagary, in 1977, which is one of the oldest veterinary schools in the world. In 1982, he graduated with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. He also holds a Ph.D. in Virology from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom; certification in Veterinary Practice Administration from the American Animal Hospital Association; certification in Small Animal Ultrasound Diagnostics from Universal Seminars Inc. in New York; and certification in Warm Water Fish Diseases from the University of Florida.
Dr. Brown’s areas of particular professional interest include Ultrasonography and veterinary practice management for which he is a visiting lecturer at the School of Veterinary Medicine-The University of the West Indies. He is also the past president of the Jamaica Veterinary Medical Association (JVMA), an executive member of the JVMA, member of the Jamaica Veterinary Board, board member of the Nature Preservation Foundation and Chairman of the Zoo Committee, and a Fellow of the Cambridge Commonwealth Society.
Recently, Dr. Brown has taken a keen interest in horse racing. “I became a racing commissioner two-and-a-half years ago, which got me involved in the ‘Sport of Kings’ (horse racing),” he says. “I fully own a 2-year-old gelding named Idexx and part own 12 other horses, which includes Mark My Word, which won the Jamaica Derby in 2010.”
Dr. Brown and his wife Dr. Katalin Brown, a General Practitioner and co-owner of the Hospital, have one daughter named Jessica born in 1998. Dr. Brown describes Jessica’s hobbies as, “Driving her mom and dad crazy, going on Facebook, watching too much television, and spending too much time with her Nintendo DS.”
Their animal family includes a Rhodesian Ridgeback named Clifford, a Rottweiler/Doberman mix named Danny, a Pekingese named Chloe, two cats named Tali and Mouse, an Amazon Parrot and a Cockatiel.
Dr. Katalin Brown
Dr. Katalin Brown is a General Practitioner and co-founded Animalcare Veterinary Hospital with her husband Dr. Graham Brown in 1991.
A native of Hungary, Dr. Brown says, “I have always loved animals and since I was a young girl I felt that caring for them is the best possible job for me. I grew up in the country and my family always kept animals, so I have always felt close to them.”
In 1977, Dr. Brown entered the Szent István University, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences in Budapest, Hungary, which is one of the oldest veterinary schools in the world. In 1982, she graduated with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. She has also received certification in Cytology from the British Society for Clinical Cytology and routinely hones her skills through continuing education courses and seminars. Her areas of particular professional interest include Avian Medicine and Surgery.
Dr. Brown and her husband have one daughter named Jessica born in 1998. Their animal family includes a Rhodesian Ridgeback named Clifford, a Rottweiler/Doberman mix named Danny, a Pekingese named Chloe, two cats named Tali and Mouse, and several parrots.
Dr. Brown spends her free time reading, and practicing Pilates and Tai Chi.
Dr. Iliya Hamilton
Dr. Iliya Hamilton is a General Practitioner and Associate Veterinarian and has been practicing with Animalcare Veterinary Hospital since September of 2009.
Born and raised in Kingston, St. Andrew, Jamaica, Dr. Hamilton enrolled in the University of the West Indies, School of Veterinary Medicine in Trinidad & Tobago, in 2004. In June of 2009, she earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Her areas of particular professional interest include Ophthalmology and Diagnostic Imaging (Radiology and Ultrasonography). She is also a member of the Jamaica Veterinary Medical Association and routinely advances her skills through continuing education courses and seminars.
Her animal family includes a mixed breed dog named Sal and a Belgian Shepherd named Phoebe. In her free time, Dr. Hamilton enjoys swimming, yoga, and kayaking.
Dr. Natalie L. Burnett
Dr. Natalie L. Burnett is a General Practitioner and an Associate Veterinarian practicing with Animalcare Veterinary Hospital since January of 2006.
Dr. Burnett says that she has always held an affinity for animals and made the decision to become a veterinarian at a relatively young age. “I decided at the age of 15 to become a veterinarian and now that I am a veterinarian it feels good to watch a patient as it progresses from being a puppy to adulthood,” she says. “I also enjoy interacting with our many friendly clients each day.”
Dr. Burnett grew up in Portmore, St. Catherine, Jamaica, and attended The University of the West Indies, School of Veterinary Medicine in Trinidad & Tobago between 1998 and 2003. She graduated with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and is particularly interested in the areas of Dermatology, ear disease and Otoscopy, Endoscopy, and Veterinary Hospital Management. She also is the Treasurer of the Jamaica Veterinary Medical Association, which is a post she has held since June of 2008.
Her pet family includes a Rottweiler/Pitbull mix named Mya, a Rottweiler/Labrador mix named Peggy, a Shih-Tzu named Happy and two Shih-Tzu/Poodle mixes named Yogi and Brit. When not at work, Dr. Burnett enjoys baking and dancing.
Dr. Sasha Halsall
Dr. Sasha Halsall is a General Practitioner and an Associate Veterinarian practicing with Animalcare Veterinary Hospital since August of 2007.
Originally from St. Andrew, Jamaica, in 2002 Dr. Halsall attended the University of the West Indies, School of Veterinary Medicine in Trinidad & Tobago. She graduated with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. Her areas of professional interest include Small Animal Medicine and Surgery and she continually hones her skills through attending continuing education classes and workshops. She is also a member of the Jamaica Veterinary Medical Association and Chairperson of its Education & Research Committee beginning in 2008.
Her pets include a Rottweiler mix named Rocky, a Rottweiler/Bull Mastiff mix named Daisy, and a cat named Dexter. Her hobbies include reading, listening to music, watching TV, baking, crafts, and doing puzzles.
