PET BOARDING

Over 30 years in the pet care business

When you decide to take a trip, your primary concern is the care and welfare of your pet. At Animalcare Portmore, we understand that your pet is part of the family. We have tried to answer some questions you might have about boarding dogs and cats.

Will my pet be staying in the Portmore clinic?

Our facility at Portmore has limited space to accommodate dog and cat boarders. For this reason, most longer stay pets are transported to our Kingston hospital for boarding and returned to Portmore on the day you plan to collect your pet. Space permitting, overnight and short stay (1-2 days) boarders are housed in Portmore for the duration of their stay.

Advantages of Boarding at an Animal Hospital
Boarding dogs and cats at a veterinary clinic is better than leaving them unattended while they wait for a friend or neighbor to check on them. Dogs and cats need more human contact than those visits provide. In fact, these occasional visits can cause feelings of neglect and anxiety. Another advantage is the medical care a veterinarian can provide in the event of a crisis. Perhaps your pet has a chronic medical condition that requires constant monitoring or daily medication – a veterinarian is the best choice for your pet in your absence.

Will my pet be exposed to diseases by being around other pets?
No matter where your pet is – at home or in your neighborhood – there is a chance they will be exposed to diseases. We require that all pets cominig to board with us are fully vaccinated and free from fleas and ticks, reducing the risk of contracting or transmitting a disease. We also provide a clean and sanitary boarding facility to further decrease any risks.

Will there be somebody to look after my pet at night?

There is no overnight staff in our Portmore clinic or Kingston hospital. However this is usually not a problem as most animals rest peacefully during the night. Prior to leaving in the evenings all boarders are checked and this is repeated in the morning as soon as our staff arrives. At our Kingston Hospital there is an on-site technician at nights who is available to care for sick animals, and by special arrangement can also monitor boarding pets.
